Purslane – Summer’s juiciest leafy vegetable
Portulaca oleracea sativa

Purslane is an old-fashioned leafy vegetable with juicy, crispy leaves and a mild, slightly tart flavor reminiscent of lemon. It has long been used in Mediterranean cuisine and is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. Eaten fresh in salads, lightly sautéed in casseroles or as a crunchy addition to a sandwich.

Easy to grow and fast-growing – perfect for both pallet collars, flower beds and pots.

Cultivation & Harvest:

  • Sowing period: May–July (when the soil is warm)

  • Harvest: After 4–6 weeks, pick leaves by hand

  • Growth habit: Low and spreading

  • Height: approx. 15–20 cm

  • Plant distance: 10–15 cm

  • Sowing depth: 0.5 cm
