The Mexican Habanero is one of the world's most famous and prized chili peppers - both for its intense heat and its exotic, fruity-smoky flavour. With a strength of 150,000-325,000 Scoville units, it is used with great caution. A very small amount is often enough to add flavour to an entire dish.

The fruits are orange to yellow-orange when ripe, 2–6 cm long and about 3 cm wide – often confused with small peppers, which can be a painful surprise. The taste is tropically fruity with smoky undertones and a quick, intense heat.

The habanero plant grows up to 120 cm tall, is prolific and has broad green leaves. The variety is perennial if overwintered frost-free, and it is often used fresh in salsas, pickles, sauces or dried into powder.

Cultivation advice:
Pre-cultivate indoors 10–12 weeks before planting out. Keep the seeds warm and moist until the seeds germinate. Place in bright light after emergence, preferably with a grow light. Plant out when the temperature is stable above 10 °C. Grows best in a greenhouse or sunny, protected location outdoors. Regular fertilization and watering promote abundant fruit setting.
